BEYOND IMAGINING

A microfiction story by Martha Cecilia Rivera.

The gigantic columns do not seem to support the building’s weight, but rather the entire idea of civilization. The smallness of the human race is evident. It is the Cairo Museum! Tutankhamun, Khafre, Menkaura, and enormous statues align with jewels, furniture, and objects of daily life. Thousands of symbols of the ancient Egyptian religion, so exclusive, can be seen everywhere. An unknown pharaoh’s sarcophagus, near the exit, seems simply more of the same. However, a tiny blue engraving of an angel with wings, on one of his sides, represents the Christian faith.
