RECYCLING ©
A mini story by Martha Cecilia Rivera.
I collect a plastic bottle, a milk carton, an egg container, and powder soup packets, and put all of them in a white bag. I’ve included every kitchen package harmful to the environment. I’m proud of myself, today I’ll be reducing my personal carbon print a little. I go downstairs with the intention to put the white bag in the recycling bin. I’m whistling an old song about multicolor trees and deep oceans. Just by the recycle bin I see the garbage truck, jump towards it and hand my white bag to the driver. He smiles, takes my bag and puts it inside his truck. That’s when surprise crushes me. Inside the truck, the recyclable and the nonreusable are mixed. The operator explains that the city budget does not allow for recycling.
